Gauge: 5 sts to 1 inch
Materials: 320 m or 350 yds of sport weight or fingering weight yarn
Needles: #5
  Cast on 50 sts and start working in garter stitch.
Row 1. Knit
Row 2. Knit
Row 3. Knit
Row 4. Knit
Row 5. Knit
Row 6. Knit
Row 7. Knit
Row 8. Increase Row. K4, * K 2, M 1. Rep from * to last 4 sts. K 4. (71 sts)
 
Repeat Row 1 through 8 twice.
 
You should have 148 sts on your needle.
 
Change to stockinette stitch, keeping the first 4 stitches and last 4 stitches of every row in garter stitch for the rest of the garment.
 
Next Row is a Buttonhole and Bobble row. Buttonhole and Bobble rows are worked every 8th row. Buttonholes and Bobbles are worked in the fourth stitch garter stitch band.
 
Buttonhole and Bobble row: Sl 1, K 2 tog, Y O. Knit to last 3 sts. In next stitch make bobble. Knit last two stitches.
 
BOBBLE:
K1, P1, K1 all in one stitch, turn work,
K3, turn work,
K3, turn work,
K3, turn work,
Slip 1, K2 tog, PSSO
 
When work measures 4 1/2" from the cast on edge, starting on a RS row.
Knit 25 sts. Slip the next 28 sts onto a stitch holder. Cast on 14 sts.
Knit 42 stitches, or until 53 sts remain on left needle. Slip the next 28 sts onto a stitch holder. Cast on 14 sts.
Knit to end of row.
 
Continue work for 4 more inches, maintaining the first 4 and last 4 stitches in garter stitch, and continuing to make every 8th row and buttonhole & bobble row.
 
When garment is 8 1/2 inches, change to garter stitch and knit 1 inch.
 
Cast off.
 
RESUME SLEEVES
Slip stitches on holders to one needle.
 
Using one end of yarn, cast on 7 sts. Join newly cast on stitches to first sleeve by knitting across first row. Cast on 7 sts more for this sleeve.
 
Repeat for second sleeve using other end of the ball of yarn.
 
You now have two sleeves on one needle, worked independently.
 
Work sleeves for 3 1/2 inches. Change to garter stitch. Work garter stitch for 1 inch. Cast off loosely, leaving a long tail, about 12 inches, to sew sleeve seam and underarm.
 
Using the tail at the hem of the sleeve, sew the seam of the sleeve up to the baby armpit Then sew closed the armpit opening. Weave the ends into the inside of the garment.
 
Weave any other tail ends into the interior of the sweater.
